Description accuracy vs prediction accuracy
These get conflated constantly, and the conflation is why people distrust the category. Description is a verifiable task: the chart either is in an uptrend with a higher low at a given level, or it is not, and you can check it in seconds. Prediction is not verifiable on a single sample and is not stable across regimes. Any tool advertising a fixed accuracy percentage is quoting a backtest under conditions that will not repeat.

The three failure modes worth knowing
- Cropped axis. Without price labels, levels degrade from numbers to relative positions. Always capture the axis.
- Missing timeframe. The same shape on a 5-minute and a daily chart carries very different weight. Keep the label in frame.
- Confident reads on thin evidence. In choppy, low-volume conditions a weak tool will manufacture a setup. A good one says there is not one.
A five-test check you can run today
- Same chart, twice. Materially different answers mean unstable output.
- A chart you already analysed. Compare structure, not the call.
- A deliberately messy chart. Look for an honest “no setup”.
- Check that a stop loss is always named. Direction without invalidation is not analysis.
- A chart from an unfamiliar market. Does it recognise the instrument type correctly?
How to use an imperfect tool well
Treat the output as a fast, unbiased second opinion, not a signal. Its real value is twofold: it costs seconds instead of minutes per chart, and it does not carry yesterday’s losing trade into today’s read. AI chart analysis is highly reliable at describing what is on the chart — trend direction, swing structure, support and resistance, visible patterns and indicator states. It is not reliable at predicting what happens next, and no tool that claims a prediction accuracy percentage can support that claim across market regimes.
Can AI predict stock prices?
No. Price is driven by information that is not on the chart, including news, order flow and positioning. AI chart analysis describes the current state and the levels that would invalidate a read; that is a different and more defensible job than prediction.
